Abstract
Mathias Denecke explores in his chapter the notion of flow metaphors in relation to the talk about global migratory movements. To this end, he foregrounds a video by filmmaker and artist Adnan Softić in terms of an audiovisual commentary on migration. He looks at both the filmic material and the means of sound production to show what seems to be taken for granted when we talk about flows. The text emphasizes the political dimension of flow talk, arguing that precisely the metaphorical relationship of 'liquidity' and 'flow' renders the movement of people as steerable and controllable.
